| Bifocal Lenses |
 |
When we reach middle age we all start to suffer from presbyopia. This very often means that it becomes necessary to have two pairs of spectacles, one for distance vision and the other for close work.
Due to life styles, work and hobbies it is not always convenient to keep changing spectacles. |

| Varifocal Lenses |
 |
Varifocals, or progressive lenses as they are sometimes referred to, are similar in concept to bifocals.
They combine both distance and reading prescriptions into one lens. Unlike bifocals they do not have a dividing line as the prescription is blended. This blending not only enhances the focusing range of your prescription but, without a dividing line, improves the appearance of the spectacles. |

| Photochromic Lenses |
 |
These lenses are sensitive to ultra violet light and turn to a darker shade when subjected to UV light.
Generally available in either Gray or Brown they provide a comfortable tint for every day wear and can also be used for sunglasses in all but very bright conditions. |

| Anti Reflection Lenses |
 |
Originally developed for cameras and binoculars, the technology is now widely available to improve the performance and appearance of spectacle lenses.
As far as the wearer is concerned the coating improves vision particularly when using a computer or driving at night. |
|
| |
| Thinner Spectacle Lenses |
 |
The advancement in materials and lens design has meant that we can now produce lenses that are up to 45% thinner than standard lenses.
The benefits being that not only are the lenses lighter and therefore more comfortable to wear the appearance is improved, especially if combined with an anti reflection coating. |

Eye protectors include safety spectacles, eye shields, goggles, welding filters, face-shields and hoods. Safety spectacles can be fitted with prescription lenses if requires. Some types of eye protection can be worn over ordinary spectacles if necessary.

The selection of eye protection depends primarily on the hazard. However, comfort, style and durability should also be considered.
- Safety spectacles are similar in appearance to prescription spectacles but will incorporate side shields to give lateral protection to the eyes. To protect from impact, the lenses are made from tough optical quality plastic such as polycarbonate. Safety spectacles are generally light in weight and are available in several styles with either plastic or metal frames. Most manufacturers offer a range of prescription safety spectacles, which are individually matched to the wearer.
- Eye shields are designed with a frameless, one piece moulded lens. Vision correction is not possible, as the lenses cannot be interchanged. Some eye shields can be worn over prescription spectacles.
- Safety Goggles are heavier and less convenient to use than spectacles or eye shields. They are made with a flexible plastic frame and one-piece lens and have an elasticated headband. They afford the eyes total protection from all angles as the whole of the goggle is in contact with the face.
Each safety eyewear unit is required to be manufactured and certified to EN Safety Standards, and will carry appropriate markings on the lens and frame to denote the level of protection afforded.
